‘A person who shifts stance has no moral right to criticise Naidu'

Chiru has let down people by merging his party with the Congress: LSP

‘He seems to be under an illusion that he is a hero even in politics'

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders here on Wednesday lashed out at Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi who became a Congressman recently, saying he had no moral right to criticise TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu when he himself adopted double standards.

Mr. Chiranjeevi had taken a swipe at Mr. Naidu on Tuesday saying he owed an explanation to people for his rise from two acres to Rs. 2,000 crore.

At a press conference, TDP general secretary M. Arvind Kumar Goud said that in the past, Mr. Chiranjeevi had lashed out at late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy saying corruption was at its peak during his tenure. Now he expressed his opinion that corruption was contained by the Congress, Mr. Goud said, wondering how a person could shift his stance in this fashion.

Even when it came to movies, Mr. Goud said that Mr. Chiranjeevi had promised not to ever act again, but now he had changed tack. At a separate press conference, another TDP general secretary Varla Ramaiah said a megastar had been reduced to the role of a side actor. “Very soon, he will be reduced to that of a junior artiste”, he warned Mr. Chiranjeevi.

Lok Satta Party has taken exception to Chiranjeevi's contention that people voted for the Praja Rajyam out of personal affection towards him and not as an alternative to the Congress and the Telugu Desam.

Lok Satta leaders Katari Srinivasa Rao and G. Raja Reddy, addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday said that Chiranajeevi's comments were an affront to more than 70 lakh people who voted his party in 2009 elections.

“Mr. Chiranjeevi seems to be under an illusion that he is a hero even in politics. Unlike in movies, voters are the real heroes in politics.

In politics, politicians exist to serve people and not vice-versa,” the Lok Satta Party leaders said.

Chiranjeevi had let down people by throwing his agenda of providing an alternative to the Congress and the TDP to the winds, merging his party with the Congress and pledging to abide by its decisions, they added.

The Lok Satta leaders said that in contrast to such parties, their party believed in pursuing citizen-centric politics and people waiting to bring in new political culture should strengthen the Lok Satta Party.
