Dec. 9: The Telangana Joint Action Committee and T-activists who observed Thursday as ‘state declaration day’ warned that they would paralyse the administration if the Centre failed to carve out a separate Telangana after the Srikrishna panel submits its report.
Meanwhile, students from the Seema Andhra region, particularly those in Andhra University campus, observed it as a ‘black day’. Leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the Telugu Desam, the Congress and the BJP held separate meetings and rallies to press for Telangana, marking the first anniversary of the announcement by the union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, that the process of carving out the state would be set in motion.
“We will chalk out an action plan on December 26,” said Prof M. Kodandaram, chairman of the Telangana JAC. “If the Centre fails to carve out separate State, we will launch a non-cooperation movement.”
At Telangana Bhavan, party leaders. Mr Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Dr Shravan and others hoisted the Telangana flag and vowed to fight till a separate State was carved out. The Telangana Praja Front president and revolutionary poet, Gaddar, led a huge rally at NTR Stadium and called upon the people to launch a movement to achieve Telangana.
He asked the Centre to immediately introduce a bill in Parliament to prove its commitment to Telangana. Following postponement of the TRS meeting at Warangal because of bad weather, a good number of T-supporters flocked to Gaddar’s colourful meet in the city.
