Hyderabad/Bengaluru, Feb. 1: In December 2004, psychopath killer Nalla Nagender Reddy, who was shot dead in a police encounter in Bengaluru early on Tuesday morning, had escaped from London and came to Hyderabad where he was involved in an automobile theft at Afzalgunj in 2006.
He was also involved in a murder case at Secunderabad. He was arrested for killing his friend Rajesh Arthum in January 2005 in Bengaluru and it was then that the police realised that he was wanted for killing Radhakrishna in the UK. Hertfordshire cops of UK in 2009 had approached the state crime investigation department seeking his arrest and extradition.
Nagender escaped the clutches of the police several times. On May 8, 2009 he had enacted a suicide drama by slitting his wrist in a Belgaum prison and was shifted to a hospital. Two days later he escaped after killing the policeman who was guarding him.A Bengaluru fast track court had issued a warrant of arrest to secure Nagender on or before February 10.
A police team found that Nagender was planning to commit a dacoity at a multi-national bank in Bengaluru and on Monday night the Bengaluru police team got information that he was moving in and around the east and north divisions.
The Bengaluru police commissioner, Mr Shankar M. Bidari, said that early on Tuesday morning, a team led by the ACP, Mr Nyam Gowda, and Inspectors, Mr Bale Gowda, and Mr Ashokan, spotted Nagender in a black SUV with an Orissa registration.
Police said Nagender fired thrice at them and in retaliation Mr Bale Gowda shot at him. He succumbed to bullet injuries on his way to a hospital.
