HYDERABAD: The Jagan factor, which is threatening to destabilise the Congress government, has become a matter of worry for the Praja Rajyam (PR) too.

The fledgling party of actor K. Chiranjeevi has already suffered as two of its MLAs from Kurnool district, B. Shobha Nagi Reddy and K. Rami Reddy have openly declared their loyalty to former Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. Another MLA A. Maheshwar Reddy from Adilabad district has distanced himself from the party over the Telangana issue and is now moving towards Jagan's group. On the same issue, the ties between E. Anil Kumar from Nizamabad district and the party have turned lukewarm.

One more legislator from a South Coastal district is also said to be in touch with the Jagan group. However, the party leadership is unable to rein in them due to lack of power. Besides, the party apprehends that Mr. Jagan would lure more MLAs. Taking all these factors into account, the PR leadership is tilting towards the option of seeking an appropriate opportunity to join the Cabinet.

This will not only keep its flock together but also rejuvenate the party. “The party has been struggling hard to organise its activities and programmes across the State as leaders are unwilling to bear the expenditure,” party sources stated. Mr. Chiranjeevi himself had to foot half of the bill for his recent ‘rythu odarpu yatra' in Guntur and Prakasam districts, though a party leader from Guntur had donated Rs. 10 lakh for the purpose. Paucity of funds has been a major reason that has deterred the party leader from touring the districts more regularly. The party has given Rs. 25,000 assistance to each of the 60 families of farmers who committed suicide and another dozen students to continue education. Joining the government is being viewed by the leadership as a panacea for several organisational problems.
