Hyderabad, Jan 9 : The Telangana issue today appeared to have created a stir in the Telugu Desam with a section of party leaders demanding separate unit for the region but the problem blew away soon as they announced loyalty to the party and the president N Chandrababu Naidu.
The stir was generated with a group of senior leaders including Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Kadiam Srihari, and P Harishwar Reddy holding a meeting at the residence of Janardhan Reddy.
With speculation being made that the leaders were raising a banner of revolt, they clarified that they remained loyal to the party and the leadership of Naidu.
"We met here to discuss Sri Krishna Committee report. Our party cadres and leaders in Telangana want a separate party unit for the region to take forward the Telangana agitation. But there is no truth in reports that we are revolting. We are in Telugu Desam and Chandrababu Naidu is our leader," Janardhan Reddy said.
Reddy and other leaders have reportedly been seeking that they be allowed to take a pro-active stance on the Telangana issue.
Meanwhile, Naidu held a meeting with senior leaders at his residence and reportedly indicated that he would not mind if some leaders left the party, sources said.
However, Janardhan Reddy, Srihari and Dayakar Rao met Naidu tonight and announced loyalty to the party.
Talking to reporters, Srihari alleged that a section of the media put out incorrect stories while Dayakar Rao said he would better quit politics rather than leaving TDP.
Naidu himself spoke to reporters late in the night and said appropriate decision would be taken on the issue at the right time.
It is for the Centre to take a decision on the Sri Krishna committee report, he asserted. Highlighting that Telugu Desam is a regional party spread all over Andhra Pradesh, he said he has the responsibility to safeguard the party in all the regions of the state.
Blaming Congress for the problems arising over the Telangana issue, Naidu said the ruling party had taken decisions on key issues irrespective of the TDP?s stand.
Despite the TDP?s opposition, Congress went ahead with the revival of legislative council in the state and the Indo-US nuclear deal among others, he explained.
The TDP and particularly Naidu have been the object of criticism by TRS and other pro-Telangana groups who allege that the party had initially announced support for separate Telangana demand but later backtracked.
