Hyderabad, Jan 9 : Accompanied by about half-a-dozen Congress MLAs, former Congress MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today left for New Delhi to undertake his one-day fast to highlight the plight of farmers in Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan, the MLAs and a large number of farmers left for Delhi by a special train from Secunderabad this afternoon.

Jagan would undertake the fast at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on January 11. The objective of his fast is to highlight alleged adverse impact of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal on the state and the plight of farmers who suffered heavy loss to their crops due to cyclones and heavy rains during the last one year.

B Sivaprasad Reddy, B Gurunath Reddy, K Srinivasulu, A Amarnath Reddy, K Satyavati, G Srikant Reddy are the MLAs who accompanied Jagan to Delhi, according to sources.

The former Kadapa MP had held a 48-hour fast at Vijayawada last month demanding hike in compensation announced by the government for the rain-hit farmers.

Jagan took a break from his ongoing ?odarpu yatra? (tour for consoling the kin of those who died after the demise of his father former Chief Minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy) in Visakhapatnam district to undertake the fast in Delhi.

Announcing his decision to hold the fast, Jagan said leaders who are supporting him would take part in his protest.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reportedly tried to persuade Jagan-loyalist MLAs and others not to take part in the fast in Delhi. Several MLAs had called on Jagan when he held the 48-hour fast in Vijayawada.
